Major Labels Pay UK Songwriters Per Diem. Why Not in the U.S.?

In July 2025, UK songwriters secured non-recoupable per diems from all three major labels after pressure from their government and advocates.

Now it’s our turn.

The Songwriter Fair Pay Initiative demands livable wages for U.S. songwriters: a non-recoupable per diem to cover expenses, non-recoupable song fees for first use of the composition(first use is a songwriter's exclusive right to approve the song’s first recording and release), and points on the master to participate in the earnings from the recording of the song.

Songwriters power the music industry. It's time we're paid like it.
